Each of our area managers has in-depth knowledge of the road networks within their respective regions. They work alongside signal engineers at the state-of-the-art Transport Operations Centre in Ringwood, helping to monitor the roads and analyse traffic flow information to see where improvements can be made.
New systems, tools and data provided through the Smarter Roads program helps the Congestion Management team to minimise the impacts of planned and unplanned disruptions, assisting with detours and traffic signal changes to keep traffic flowing.
Area managers consult with Department colleagues, external stakeholders including councils and public transport operators, and review feedback from members of the public in order to understand the issues impacting the network.
They share this information with signal engineers and work with them to plan improvements on local main roads as they carry out the biggest review of traffic lights in Melbourne’s history.
